One 60-day journey around Australia is being halted following the tragic passing of an older lady who was left behind by the ship on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The liner departed without her and came back later that day after the personnel realised the lady was not present.

A major hunt discovered her person the following day.

Officials are examining the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the shipping company said that guests and personnel on the vessel were told that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be issued a full refund, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the travel back of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Officials also published an revised statement, and said they had "provided a order to the Captain" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

Sequence of Incidents

The ship originally sailed from Cairns on 24 October, and was merely two days into the expedition at the time of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Passengers on board - who generally pay tens of thousands of currency to join the cruise - were ferried there for a day trip with the option of walking or snorkelling.

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "surprised and distressed that the vessel left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my mother".

Through her comments, she described her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a participant of a walking organization.

"Based on limited facts we have been provided, it appears that there was a failure of attention and common sense," she mentioned.

She further stated that she wished the examination would be able to determine what "the company should have done that might have protected Her existence".

"According to reports from the police that it was a very hot day, and she became unwell on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"They requested her to return, without accompaniment. Then the ship sailed away, seemingly without performing a headcount.

"At a certain moment in that chain of events, or soon after, mum passed away, by herself."

Company Position

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to aid their examination".

He stated that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had offered its complete assistance to the family.

Shipping Sector Standards

The liner serves up to a hundred twenty travelers with forty-six crew, according to official details. It was purpose-built to enter distant areas of Australia's shoreline and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - small boats used to take individuals on shore trips.

Events like this are infrequent, and liners have systems to document which passengers are embarking or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard really isn't an choice," one expert remarked.

Cruise lines consider these procedures very seriously and have "sophisticated systems in place to prevent such occurrences from happening," the expert continued.

"This seems to be most likely a stunning - and tragic - one-off."
